I have discussed the question in

the question in the Chief Clerk's

minute to you of 7 November with HKD and FED.

JOINT LIAISON GROUP

I think the British side on the Joint Liaison Group

will be able to cope with existing resources until 1988.

Under the terms of the Joint Declaration the Group will

be principally based in Hong Kong from 1 July 1988,

although it will continue to meet in Hong Kong and

Peking.

The Chinese will almost certainly open an office
