It is also clear that the public considers
that the various options put forward are not
comprehensive enough and more effort needs to be put
in the general areas of education and publicity.
Greater efforts for rehabilitation are also
suggested. Proposed Government action in these areas is dealt in paragraph 5 to 14 below.
PROPOSALS

Action to be taken on the various options
put forward in the discussion document are set out in
five sections
(a) those which will be taken forward
immediately
(i) omitting the addresses from
witness statements which are
(ii)
be served on the defence
(paragraph 4.17 of the discussion
document);
allocating, where possible,
police manpower to respond to
witnesses who might be
intimidated (paragraph 4.18 of
the document);
(iii) issuing a notice to all
prosecutors on the powers of the
courts to remove undesirable
persons from the public gallery and generally to protect
witnesses (paragraph 4.19 of the
document);
