THE FOURTH MEETING OF THE SINO-BRITISH JOINT LIAISON GROUP (JLG), 22-25 JULY 1986

1.

You will doubtless recall our exchanges about the first meeting of the JLG this time last year. Time certainly does fly when you're having fun and once again it is our turn to host the JLG's next meeting.

2.

The London meeting of the JLG is by far the major consumer of our departmental DSEF allocation.

This year, as last, we would like to offer hospitality in the form of a working lunch (to be hosted by Dr Wilson at the Athenum Club) and a formal dinner (to be hosted by Mr Renton at Lancaster House).

3.

We made provision for both a dinner and a lunch for the JLG in our bid for DSEF funds this year. Unfortunately, as the work of the JLG begins to increase, so does the number of experts attached to the respective delegations.

This year, Mr Renton's dinner will be for 36 people (@ approx £35.00 per head, total £1260.00) and Dr Wilson's lunch will be for 29 people (@ approx £20.00 per head, total £580.00).

I attach provisional guest lists and would be grateful for financial authority for both meals.
