(Fong Ping of Ta Kung Pao): Recent talk of "resisting Peking's intervention" and

"countering Communists with democracy" reflected

a lack of confidence in the Chinese Government.

Communist Papers

(Yu Mak of the New Evening Post): It would be self-deceiving to exaggerate the value of public opinion and to regard public consulta- tion as the only way to democracy. The development of a representative system was not in response to public opinion or the people's wishes.
