(Chai Sun of HK Economic Journal): Chinese premier Zhao Ziyang had said in a letter to HKU students that he supported democracy in HK. Returning power to the people of HK was in line with Article 2 of the Chinese Constitution.

* (Xu Simin, BLCC member, wrote in the reader's forum of Wen Wei Po): Judging from UK's social problems, it's not hard to tell whether British parliamentary democracy could bring HK any stability. China was the source of HK's stability. Had China wanted to intervene in HK's affairs, it could have done so long time ago.

(Denis Chang, HK Bar Association chairman): He was concerned about the notion that Britain should not initiate reforms unless they proved to be urgently needed and directly related to maintaining HK's stability and prosperity.
