July 1951 and was promoted to his present rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade A in April 1985. Mr Bristow has held a variety of posts in the Administrative Service, including District Officer in the former New Territories Administration (1963-66), Deputy Secretary for Security (1973-76) and Deputy Director of Urban Services (1977-83). He has been the Secretary General of the Standing Commission on Civil Service Salaries and Conditions of Service since March 1983.
