Thank you for your letter of 28 February 1985. It is indeed good to have such a helpful response from the Australians. Do you know if Lord Ennals wrote to other resettlement countries and, if so, what sort of reply did he receive?

Although, you suggest that the Australians might be in a position to respond to SCORRI, I was talking to Hugh Ramsay, Peter Frazer and Bruce Richardson yesterday afternoon, and they said that Canberra would probably be deciding on the global resettlement figure very soon. This would be followed by regional figures and, then, probably in the middle of the year, the Hong Kong resettlement figure. They reminded me that the actual decision was not formalised until September last year.

Accordingly, they might not be able to respond to SCORRI

if it's report is published in April.
