* New Evening Post: The proposed list of HK members on the Basic Law drafting committee can represent different sectors of the local community.
Ching Po: The proposed list of HK members on the Basic Law drafting committee can represent different sectors of the local community.
Justice Simon Li: The role of a judge is to interpret rather than to draft the law.
Sources: The NPC Standing Committee will authorise concerned people in HK to organise a Basic Law advisory committee comprising 80 members from various sectors. The committee, which will be financed by donations from large organisations in HK, will set up its headquarters in Peking and an office in HK.
Governor Sir Edward Youde: There should be no conflict of interest if Umelco members are appointed to the Basic Law drafting committee as long as they work for the interests of the territory. The participation of HK
people in the committee is an excellent thing.
