Basic Law drafting

committee member Sanford Yung: Drafting committee members will study the setting up of a secretariat for the consultative committee and its membership at their first meeting on July 17. The HK members are divided on whether

drafting committee

members should sit on the

consultative committee.

Expatriates should be

included in the

consultative body as they are closely related to HK's economy.

Mak Hoi-wah of the HK

Social Workers General Union: It will not be sensible to set up the Basic Law consultative

committee in a haste. Drafting committee members should discuss the consultative body's function, structure and consultation process before discussing its membership.
