NCNA HK director Xu Jiatun: The HK Government is willing to be cooperative over the question of whether the consultative committee need to be register as a society here. There is no definite plan for the consultative committee

yet.

Financial Daily: The suggestion by a HK member of the Basic Law drafting committee Cha Chi-ming that an advisory council be set up to select the chief executive of the future SAR is not in the interest of HK's overall economic and political development and did not come under the spirit of representative government. The most controversial point will be how members of this council will be chosen.

Bar Association chairman Denis Chang: The Basic Law consultative committee should be formed by members nominated by different groups representing a cross-section of the community. If the consultative committee is formed purely according to the wishes of the 25 drafting committee members in HK, local community groups will form their own consultative body and there will be confusion.

Acting Governor Sir David Akers-Jones: Discussion on the Basic Law is not expected to be on the agenda of DBs.

Secretary for District Administration Donald

Liao: The Basic Law should not be discussed at DB meetings as it is not within the boards'

scope.
