The Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the British Embassy

in China the assurances of their highest consideration.

In reply the British Embassy in China has the honour to

confirm that the above proposals are acceptable to the

Government of the United Kingdom and that the Department's

Note and this Note of reply will constitute an understanding

between the Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry of the PRC

and the British Embassy on this matter, which will come into

operation on the date of the exchange of Notes.
