SUMMARY
The prisoner was deprived of parental care and concern in his child- hood. At the age of three, his father passed away. The mother had difficulty in taking care of her four children. Thus, the prisoner was placed at the Children's Garden and then Chung Shan Primary School as a boarder. Though later he could enjoy a more satisfactory home environment after the family reunion at the age of ten and achievements in schooling and career, he did not seem to be compensated for his sense of insecurity and inferiority inflicted by the separation with his family at the early years. Perhaps, with these complexes, the prisoner tended to be argumentative and arrogant. Though apparently he was amiable, sociable and active, basically he was reserved and introvert, as remarked by most of the interviewees. With his strong pride and love for his girlfriend, it was unbearable for him to lose her. Tragically, it led to the killing of the deceased. Presently, the prisoner was remorseful for his offence.
2.
The prisoner had no record of conviction before the present offence. All along, he gave a good impression to his friends, teachers and employer. His employment record indicated that he was conscientious, hardworking and reliable. Due to the present offence, he had ruined his career.
As a friend, his peers considered him helpful, trustworthy and gentle, though sometimes a bit arrogant. In the family, he was said to be the most responsible and chief contributor. After the present offence the family did not encounter great financial difficulty. No assistance of any form was requested.
