owned chemical fertiliser factories face a different situation. In recent years China has built eight plants throughout the country to cope with the rapid development in agriculture. Each plant is capable of producing 300,000 tons of carbamide annually and is equipped with advanced machinery imported from abroad. Products are for salc both in the domestic and foreign markets.

A retired worker from the No. 20 Plastic Factory in the Yuexiu District of Guangzhou Municipality, said the City has 22 plastic factories under the direct command of the
Municipal No. 2 Bureau of Light Industry. The workforce of each factory ranges from between 250 to 600 people.

At present, the leading cadres and Party members of these factories are studying the documents of the 12th CPC National Congress in preparation for the Party rectification campaign to be held in the second half of 1983.

of the local Uygur minorities have gradually improved as a
result of the influence of the Hans. Uygur students are given free education and many schools are now fully enrolled. However, the shortage of qualified teachers and educational workers is still a serious problem. The authorities are sending students to key universities throughout China, on the condition that when they graduate they will return to
serve the local people.
