Engineering Considerations
No physical limits to size of aerodrome and land for support facilities.
Reclamation on marine muds requiring piled foundations for early opening.
The entire Deep Bay shall be enclosed by a dam and sea water drained so that the area can be more advantageously utilized for airport, water reservoir, fresh water lake and recreational parks. This will also help to expedite consolidation process of land for the airport.
Noise Exposure
Typical estimates of noise generated by international airports with similar daily usage were used to indicate likely impacts on surrounding areas.
This indicated a preference for an airport in the centre of Deep Bay. Locations to either side could affect existing and future development. Some moderate though tolerable noise exposure would affect Tin Shui Wai, Fuk Tin and Shenzhen. Translation of the airport in a northerly direction would be at the expense of increasing noise levels in Fuk Tin and Shenzhen.
Height Restrictions
These could apply to the Tsim Bei Tsui peninsula.
Shipping in the vicinity of the runway would have to care- fully controlled and mast height limits implemented.
Lateral height limits are generally less sacrosanct than those in the flight paths. Nethertheless some limits, albeit quite high, may obtain along the coastline of Deep Bay.
Ground Access
The airport is at the confluence of existing and planned trunk networks and offers excellent accessibility to Hong Kong and Guangdong Province.
Road links could easily be constructed by extending links from either side of the border; on the Chinese side from the proposed Hong Kong-Guangzhou Superhighway and on the Hong Kong side from the trunk roads to the North West New Territories and Tin Shui Wai.
Railway links could be provided from either side of the border; from Shenzhen by extending the Canton railway to the Shekou peninsula and onwards; and from the KCR railway by extending a link westwards from Tai Po or Fanling.
