I am very grateful to you for all you did at various stages of my busy programme in Hong Kong last week, and in particular for hosting the excellent meal we all had together at the Jade Garden Restaurant. It was an excellent occasion where not only was the meal itself quite splendid, but the conversation at each table with such a variety of representatives of Hong Kong opinion proved invaluable to me in seeking to understand the opinions of the people of Hong Kong at this crucial time on the question of their future. Thank you so much for thinking of and arranging such a useful occasion.
I also very much enjoyed our brief visit to your house and a chance to meet there the Heung Yee Kuk. They offered a fascinating and different perspective on the whole question to most of those I met in Hong Kong itself. But all the more valuable given their forthcoming visit to Peking. I hope you found the meeting useful.
Thank you again.
With good wishes for the New Year.
