May I thank you, Roger Lobo and all the other Unofficials for the quite splendid dinner which you offered us at UMELCO on Tuesday 7 December. It was a memorable occasion and a very happy atmosphere in which we were able to continue the important discussions we had started earlier in the day at EXCO and UMELCO. Thank you also for the magnificent gift which you gave me: I have taken your Chinese proverb very much to heart! It will be a lasting memory for me of the interesting time we had that day.
I was very glad of the opportunity to have such an extensive talk with you both in the formal meetings and outside. At such a crucial time in the future of Hong Kong we in London value very much the contacts which we have with you and your colleagues, and as you know, discussion with you, the Governor and others was one of the primary purposes of my short visit to Hong Kong. I found it immensely rewarding.
Thank you very much for all you did for me and my colleagues in Hong Kong.
The Hon Sir S Y Chung CBE JP Senior Unofficial Member of the
Executive Council
Hong Kong
Yours severely,
Sh Belstead.
