As I mentioned last night, I particularly
welcome the opportunity which my visit has
provided so soon after my becoming Lord Privy Seal
to meet you, Your Excellency, and some of your
colleagues. My talks here have been most
valuable and I very much hope that they
will mark the beginning of a close personal
association with China. I look forward to
continuing at the earliest opportunity the
exchange of views which we have had here,
which itself has been a continuation of what
has become a natural process of regularly
strengthening mutual understanding between
our two Governments, which was the characteristic
of Lord Carrington's visit last spring.
