Purpose

To oversee the develop- ment of passenger ferry services to China.

Progress Made & Present Position

A meeting with representatives from Shenzhen on the development of the reports at Mirs Bay was chaired by Regional Secretary (Hong Kong & Kowloon).

Target for Next Quarter

To monitor the progress of the provision of temporary pier facilities at Sha Tin and to explore other marine links with China.

To ensure a smooth transfer of responsibi- lity; to establish a good working relation- ship with Lands Depart- ment; and to maintain public confidence in the system of land administration.

(a) To maintain close

liaison with the Heung Yee Kuk and to consult the Kuk on important matters affecting NT villagers.

Discussions were held with District Officers and Director of Lands and the details of the transfer were agreed. There was also a process of consultation with local NT leaders to inform and reassure them as to the nature of the changes proposed. Responsibility was transferred to Director of Lands without major problems on 1st April.

(a) Progress was made on procedural

matters concerning burial of and issue of death certificates for indigenous villagers. It was agreed to have further meetings on land-related issues raised by the Kuk (in addition to the Small House Working Party - see item 8 below). The Kuk awaits a reply to a petition concerning the Crown Lands Resumption Ordinance and

Electricity Networks

(Statutory Easements) Ordinance.
