Many thanks for your recent letter and I am grateful for what I gather is your favourable reaction to my proposal in principle to invite the lady of one of the Chinese leaders to launch an Austin & Pickersgill vessel sometime next year if a reciprocal arrangement could be put in place for the Prime Minister to launch one of my Group's vessels building in China during a visit. As you rightly pointed out, timing may be the most significant factor that has to be looked into, but I am sure that with close liaison with the shipyards and all parties concerned, this need not be an insur- mountable obstacle.

I shall have a short trip to China on 6th December and expect to meet with a few members of the leadership while I am in Beijing. With your permission, I will mention the idea to them and see what their reaction is.
