Other Official Visits and Calls

5.

I would, of course, welcome general discussions with Philip Haddon-Cave and David Wilson on a number of topics not covered above. In addition, I would be grateful if you could consider the following:

i) Call on CBF. I did not see him last time. I do

not think a visit to Army units is necessary this time.

ii)

iii)

Police. It would be helpful to include a call on the Commissioner and, if possible, the Directors of Special Branch and Criminal Investigation. I saw Jimmy Morrin last time and would welcome a repeat. I would find it helpful to add to my experience by a briefing discussion session with the DCI.

New Territories. I have seen a fair amount of the New Towns. It would, however, be very helpful to get a slightly deeper picture of industrial prospects and development in the New Territories, perhaps with a visit to the industrial estate at Tai Po or Shatin. Depending on his plans, perhaps I could combine this with a talk with David Akers-Jones.

General round-up.

Round-up on legal questions.

iv)

Chief Justice.

v)

Attorney-General.

6.

This, I think, completes the list. I am, of course, very ready to see other people who feel a talk would be useful.

Calls and Meetings (Non-official)

7.

I suggest the following:

a) UMELCO: on previous lines. In addition, I suggest

that a separate meeting with Sir S Y Chung might s be helpful.
