To monitor the construction of the Prince of Wales Hospital which will provide clinical training for the second Medical School at Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Progress made and present position

(c) The Pharmacy and Poisons (Amendment)

Ordinance 1980 and its subsidiary regulations ((a) and (b) above) came into operation on 1 January 1981.

With the improvements achieved in concrete pouring rates, work on the structural frame is now only 1.3 weeks behind schedule. However, work on services and finishes is 7.3 weeks behind schedule but this is due to the fact that the start on this part of the project was delayed by six weeks. The project however is expected to be completed within the scheduled contract period.

A revised draft Bill is being prepared by the Law Draftsman.

The project was upgraded to Category A at an estimated cost of $743 million on 5 November 1980. At the same time the scope of the project has been expanded to include the fifth nurses training school and to fully air-condition the hospital complex.

To provide training facilities (a) Membership of the Supplementary Medical in certain of the para-medical fields, and to introduce legislation for controlling certain para-medical professions.

Professions Council and individual professional Boards are being finalized.

(b) Additional drafting instructions from the

Director of Medical & Health Services on the Medical Laboratory Technicians (Registration & Disciplinary Procedures) Regulations 1980 are being examined.
