1. You asked us to pursue further ways in which new incumbents for Dependent Territories jobs could be given advance training.
2. We have identified one possibility. The Institute of Development Studies in Brighton can provide a course which could within reason be tailor-made to provide instruction on the development side of Dependent Territories work. Training Department should be able to meet expenses on an ad hoc basis. It is unlikely that we would have a demand for training for more than one or two officers a year.
3. This would help to meet at least part of our requirement. Although concentrating on development, the Institute should be able to provide a helpful insight into the work of Dependent Territories and I am sure that future Governors and others would find it useful.
We are continuing to work on the other political - side of training.
