to be a citizen of the 5DT if that parent is serving overseas in
Crown service under the Government of the dependency concerned. Such
a child should in these circumstances be regarded as having
citizenship of the EDT by reason of birth in a dependency.

7.33 A child born illegitimately elsewhere than in a dependency
whose mother is at the time of the birth a citizen of the EDT by
reason of birth in a dependency is to be a citizen of the EDT.

Naturalisation
residence or Government service
7.41 The Secretary of State is to have a discretionary power to
grant a certificate of naturalisation as a citizen of the EDT to
any adult of full capacity who satisfies the Secretary of State
that he meets the requirements described in paragraphs 7.42 to
7.47 below.
7.42 Except as mentioned in paragraph 7.43 below, the applicant
must have a period or periods of qualifying residence in a
dependency. The intended meaning of "residence" in this context
is explained in the Appendix to these Instructions. To qualify
he must have been resident in a dependency for the whole of the
12 months inmediately preceding his ap-lication and, in addition,
must have resided in the dependency in the 6 years before that for
a period or pericàs totalling 4 years.
7.43

considers that the special circumstances justify doing so, he is
