(a) accept smaller periods of residence than these
mentioned in paragraph 7.42 above; or
(b) instead of the residential requirement accept
a period (unspecified) of Crown service uncer
the Government of a dependency.
7.44 The applicant must at the time of the application be settleã
in the dependency concerned or serving overseas in Crown Service
under the Government of the dependency concerned.
7.45 In the case of a person who was in a dependency subject to
a time limit under the immigration laws of the dependency which
has been removed, at least 12 months must have elapsed between
the removal of the time limit and the making of the application.
7.45£ The applicant must be of good character.
7.4€° The applicant must have a sufficient knowledge of the
English language or a local language recognised for official purposes in the dependency, except that the Secretary of State
should be able to waive this requirement where he considers that
because the applicant's age or physical condition it would be
unreasonable to expect him to comply with it.

of lisation being granted to him, to reride in the dependin
