An additional factor in the intentions of Kareem's to expand in Hong Kong is associated with the establishment in the Colony, with or without investment participation from Belgium which we are instructed is keenly interested at the moment, of a light steel cutting business to weld and make all accessory implements normally used in the jewellery trade in the world. The manufacture of implements such as tweezers, loup magnifiers, scoops and boxes is intended and we are instructed that the scope for the prospects of such a business is considerable and the benefits to local conditions and to export profits and drive can clearly be seen.
We are instructed that an initial authorised capital of some HK$1 million for such a new venture is at present contemplated and can easily be obtained.
Following the successful implementation of this new business, it is N
intention to proceed to a more sophisticated form or manufacture including that of a proportionscope, being a machine used to assess the quality of cutting of gems.
We are instructed that the decision now taken by the Immigration Department in respect of Mr. Thaika can only be extremely detrimental to
s intentions with regard
to the commencement of this new manufacturing business.
We therefore write this application for a review of, and objection to, the decision taken at the earliest possible date and look forward to hearing the decision of the Governor in Council following his consideration thereof accordingly.
We are instructed to request that
be permitted to remain in Hong Kong pending the outcome of the deliberation of the Governor in Council upon the contents of this letter.
Yours faithfully,
