ICEM's refugee/migrant movements in August totaled 23,131 bringing the cumulative total for the period 1 January-31 August to 126,556.
August movements included 5,049 Eastern Europeans, mostly Soviets, of whom 3,275 went to the United States and 1,424 to Israel; and 16,570 Indochinese whose destinations were as follows:

During the period 1 January-31 August, ICEM's movements of Indochinese refugees from sylum areas have been as follows:

This total includes 1,916 persons who were permitted to emigrate legally from the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and were assisted by ICEM in moving to countries of immigration.
On the basis of current projections, ICEM's movement programme for current year 1979 will now reach 213,000 including 145,000 from Indo- china, 53,000 from Eastern Europe, 2,500 from the Middle East and Africa, 2,400 from other Asian countries, 2,000 from Latin America, 1,700 Cubans from Spain and 5,000 from Western Europe an all time record high for ICEM.
