Dear Prime Minister,
The scale of human suffering among the refugees in South East Asia is immense. Particularly appalling is the fate of the so called 'boat people' from Vietnam.
So many are drowned at sea and those who do get to land find themselves unwanted.
Our country has a proud record of hospitality to people in such distress, but we cannot be proud of our present record in allowing so few of these refugees to come to Britain.
I should like to support the suggestion that this country should offer a haven and home to at least 15,000/20,000 of the Vietnamese 'boat people'. An admission of this size would hardly endanger our rich standard of living and it would allow our voice to be heard with more authority at the forthcoming International Conference. More important, it is the Christian thing to do.
Yours sincerely
