MR RJ WALLACE OBE
Mr Wallace was born in 1919 and educated at Tatterford
School, Norfolk, and Leeds University. In 1939 he joined the British Army and in 1940 was commissioned into the Indian Army reaching the rank of Major. He left the Army in 1946.
In the following year he joined the Colonial Service and was appointed to the Gold Coast (Ghana) as an Administrative Cfficer, serving in various posts until 1958. From 1958-60 he was Assistant Chief Secretary, Financial Secretary and member of the Executive and Legislative Councils in British Somaliland. From 1961-66 he was at the Ministry of Defence and subsequently became a Principal in HM Treasury. In 1973 he was seconded to the Solomon Islands as Financial Secretary.
In March 1977 he was seconded to the British National Service, New Hebrides, for a period of one year as an expert on

Administrative Reform to be the British Representative on an Anglo-French Joint Commission to examine and report on
the organisation of the New Hebrides Government and to help with the implementation of the accepted decisions. He has
been selected to replace Mr JH Smitt
