THOMAS RUSSELL CRE

Mr Russell was born on 27 May 1920 in Scotland. He is

married with one child.

2. He was educated at Melrose Public School, Hawick High School and St Andrew's University where he obtained an MA. His studies for B Litt were interrupted by the war.

3. From 1940-46 he served with the Black Watch, Cameronians and the Parachute Regiment in Africa and Italy, and was

wounded and taken prisoner in 1944.

His first Colonial appointment was to BSIP as a District Officer in 1948. From 1951-54 he gained experience of Finance and Personnel matters in the Secretariat, and in

1954 became District Commissioner Malaita. He was seconded to the Colonial Office for a year in 1956 and on his return to the territory handled various schedules in the Secretariat. He was appointed Deputy Financial Secretary in 1962, and Financial Secretary in 1965. From 1970 he was Chief Secretary, and in 1974 was appointed Governor of the Cayman Islands for three years.
