3. STENOGRAPHER

(a) the grade should be re-titled "Stenographer"; (b) the grade should have one rank;

(c) appointment should be direct with

(i) passes in THREE specified subjects

(English Language (B), Chinese Language and Mathematics), in the Certificate Education;

(ii) a typing speed of 50 w.p.m.; and, (iii) a shorthand speed of 20 w.p.m.; and in-service, from Typist, with (iv) 3 years service as Typist;

(v) a typing speed of 50 w.p.m.;

(vi) a shorthand speed of 80 w.p.m.;

(vii) a pass in an in-service examination; and, (viii) a successful interview;

(d) probationers and officers on trial should be

required to pass a shorthand speed test of 90 w.p.m. before confirmation;

(e) duties should be changed to "Shorthand, typing

and audio-typing duties";

(f) the minimum of the pay scale should be lowered by

one increment in keeping with the slightly lowered academic qualifications, and the maximum should be raised by one increment, in the tight of PIU survey of the private sector; #1812

(g) Stenographers should have promotion opportunities to

Supervisor of Typing Services and Personal

Secretary;

(h) incremental credit should be given for

(i) a typing speed of 70 w.p.m. - 1 increment (ii) a shorthand speed of 110 w.p.m, 1 increment (iii) passes in FIVE approved academic subjects

(including English Language (B), Chinese Language and Mathematics) in the Certificate of Education Examination 1 increment;

NEW GRADE OF SUPERVISOR OF TYPING SERVICES

(a) a new grade should be created named "Supervisor

of Typing Services"

b) the grade should have one rank;
