(i) Supervisors of Typing Services should be

required to supervise and organise the work of between 5 and 12 Stenographers and/or Typists located either within or near to a pool;

(ii) they should decide on work priorities (con-

sulting where necessary). This duty will require them to have a comprehensive knowledge of the functioning of their department, branch or section;

(iii) they should ensure that work is allocated

equitably according to the capabilities of their staff, that a high rate of output is maintained, and that the collection and

delivery of work to and from the pool is effic- iently carried out;

(iv) they should spot check the standards of work of the officers working in their pools;

(v) they should maintain or supervise the

maintenance of worklogs and analyse them for planning purposes;

(vi) they should personally handle queries,

enquiries and complaints;

(vii) they should visit periodically

all the

customers of their pools with a view to

gradually improving and widening the scope of the service given by their pool;

(viii) they should give on-the-job training to

their staff; and,

(ix) they should undertake, as necessary, stenographic

and typing duties themselves.

in respect of pay scale, that of Supervisor Typing Services should be two increments higher than that of Personal Secretary at the minimum, and three increments higher at the maximum, i.e. Points 17 26 ($1,965 - 3,150) to take into account the requirement for considerable maturity on entrance to the grade and the supervisory nature of the duties and their high level of responsibility;

in respect of trial period, an increase to two years from the normal one year is proposed,

(i) for adequate testing of in-service appointees

in the full range of their duties; and, (ii) to allow sufficient time for an officer's supervisory potential and assurance to be developed adequately to meet the requirements of the office;

there should be no direct promotion prospects from the grade of Supervisor of Typing Services, as it is a one-rank grade.
