It was agreed by DNOR and the Heads of DS 4 and 6, at an informal meeting on 10 January, that as the next step in this project AUS(GS) should write to the Secretary of Security of the Hong Kong Government.

2. It was agreed that his letter should set out the argument for rejecting the frigate/patrol craft mix, reiterate the understanding on cost sharing, and indicate the immediate programme of work. It would go on to suggest that by late spring/early summer it would be appropriate for a meeting between their officials and ours (preferably in London) to discuss our proposed choice of craft, and to reach firm agreement on cost sharing. The letter would be supported by an Annex summarising those parts of the NST relevant to the characteristics of the replacement craft.
