Modernization of the
KCR

To electrify the KCR on the basis of a consultancy study on the modernization of the railway system in conjunction with a programme of capital works to improve the carrying capacity of the railway.
"Electrification
(a) On 18th October 1978, Finance Committee upgraded KDFR (1) "Electrification of the KCR from Hung Hom to Lo Wu" to Category A.
(b) The Finance Committee item
included reimbursement to utilities companies of costs of protection against electrical interference on the basis of the report received from Transmark, the last item in their interim consultancy. A technical
working group will deal with this issue.
(c) Tenders for rolling stock have
been received and are under
evaluation.
(a) A Liaison Group meets monthly to deal with progress and outstanding problems on the overall project.
(a) Monitor progress
and adherence to
timetable.
(b) Monitor work of the Working Group.
(c) Let contracts.
