Extension to the Modified Initial System of the Mass Transit Railway
(CR 7/4913/77)
To resolve major policy problems related to constructing extensions to the Modified Initial System which cannot be settled within the specialist committees dealing with land acquisition, planning-- and construction work.
(a) Major problems are dealt with by the Tsuen Wan Mass Transit Extension Reference Committee under the chairmanship of the Secretary for the Environment.
(b) The two major contracts, Nos.
301 and 302, and contract No. 307. were awarded on 2nd October. Tenders for contracts, Nos. 303, Lai King Station, Tunnels and Overhead Structure, and 305, Tai Wo Hau Station and Tunnels, were due on 21st August and 11th September respectively and are being evaluated. Contract No. 304, Kwai Fong and Kwai Hing Station, and structure went out to tender on 31st August.
(c) Resumptions and clearance of
land required for the depot are in hand. Additional compensation of post-war owner occupiers of tenement buildings has been agreed. Finance Committee has approved the increase in the rate of ex-
gratia compensation for factory
operators and to remove the maximum compensation limit of $100,000 per undertaking.
