The position with the Police Interpreters was

reported in our Telno. 122 of 31st January 1978 (copy attached).

Administrative Recruitment

The local recruitment exercise for 1978 is now

under way and a total of 1,052 applications were received:

951 in Hong Kong and 101 in London. The applications have

been screened and 812 candidates (730 in Hong Kong and 82

in London) will be competing in the Written Examination on

16th and 17th February.

Discipline

Minor amendments to the Disciplinary Proceedings

(Colonial Regulations) Regulations and the Civil Service

(Disciplinarv) Regulations were approved by the Foreign and

Commonwealth Office. In the main, these amendments were

consequential to recent amendments to Colonial Regulations.

12.

The proposed amendments to the Acceptance of

Advantages Regulations are still under consideration.

Guidelines to ensure consistency of application of regulation`

9 of these Regulations have recently been issued to heads

of departments.

13.

After detailed examination it has been decided

not to establish a specialist investigation unit in the

Civil Service Branch but to appoint a full-time Assisting

Officer to help Heads of Departments to process disciplinary

cases and to reduce delays.
