GOVERNORS TERMS OF SERVICE
1. It was good of you to ask whether there is anything you can do to alleviate the lot of the Governor of Belize (your HKA 431/1 of 3 October).
2. As you will know, a special arrangement has been agreed with the belize uovernment about the Governor's mid-tour leave (your para 3.i.). It is that I am summoned back to the UK for consultations once a year - my passage and expenses being paid by the FCO - and then allowed to take a month to six weeks leave, depending on the exigencies of the office. My wife's leave and expenses are paid by the Belize Lovernment.
3. The Belize Government look after me as well as they are able in the circumstances and i don't think, therefore, tnat there are any points which I would wish to raise, since most of the difficulties of living in belize are, the isolation of the capital and the consequential lack of any cultural or sporting recreational facilities and the fact that it is such a disagreeable climate, none of which the Belize Government are in a position to rectify.
