1.
Thank you for your letter of 25 January about uniforms for General Jackson. Of the items you mention we can accept responsibility for charges on all but the shirt-sleeve order shirts and trousers. In addition we would be prepared to meet the cost of one pair of boots or shoes as appropriate.
2. I should be grateful if you would explain to the General that we cannot agree to pay for the shirt-sleeve order items as these are intended for informal wear when a civilian Governor would wear a lounge suit or similar, for which we have no financial responsibility.
3. If you would therefore let me have detailed bills covering all but the shirt-sleeve order items, I shall arrange for their payment. Perhaps you would advise how General Jackson would like this to be done.
Will you also advise him that if he sends us a bill for a pair of boots or shoes, for use with Ceremonial uniform, we will also reimburse him.
