116. In August, 1976, a Eurasian male who had been arrested in possession of 3.56 kilogrammes of heroin, requested an interview with the Narcotics Bureau. He felt that his arrest had resulted from a "double cross", and detailed questioning of the man and his wife resulted in sufficient evidence being obtained to prefer charges of Conspiracy To Traffic In Dangerous Drugs against CHAN Man-chiu and his associates. A Nolle Prosequi was entered against the couple who agreed to give evidence for the prosecution in subsequent court proceedings.
117. On 10th August, 1976, Narcotics Bureau officers conducted a total of 30 raids in Kowloon and the New Territories. These resulted in the arrest of CHAN Man-chiu and 12 leading members of his syndicate. Searches revealed a wealth of documents and account books, and 166.2 grammes of a mixture containing 39.3 grammes of salts of esters of morphine (No. 3 heroin).
