to the draft reply to the German Embassy in London which letter fo you enclosed, we did not telegraph any comments. We will await the clearing of the operational order by the D O T and U K AEA, and the comments of the Legal Advisers on the exchange of notes with the Germans about claims in respect of an accident. It is good that the NEMT at Alverstoke have agreed to provide coverage. the visit becomes a reality, we will send you a press line.

Meanwhile, we have received a further Note from the German Consulate-General here, informing us that the "OTTO HAHN" will not now be making a trip to the Far East until at least the second half of this year. This is rather what we expected. I have explained to the German Consulate-General orally that we are still clearing with you the detailed arrangements for the visit and will let them have a formal reply in due course; but that you are keeping the German Embassy in London in the picture meanwhile.
