against the arrangements of their competitors from other

countries.

The Working Group have noted the disadvantages deriving from the fact that a few large firms in Hong Kong hold a large number of agencies often in the same products. With the object of providing greater scope for British

firms, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce will inform the British Trade Commission of any new Hong Kong firms interested in acting as agents.

Fiscal developments in Britain

The Working Group have had conflicting reports on how British firms and their agents in Hong Kong have adjusted their prices in response to movements in the value of sterling. In their analysis, the Trade Development Council will try to determine the facts and the consequences for British performance in Hong Kong.

A more positive way in which fiscal policies might assist British exports to Hong Kong would be for Britain to waive import duty on the British content of Hong Kong exports to Britain (a member of the working Group believes that the Federal Republic of Germany may still have such an arrangement in respect of the German content of Hong Kong exports to Germany). The Senior British Trade Commissioner will be exploring the possibility with H.M.G.
