Dear Mike,

MP'S LETTER:

1.

REMOVAL FROM HONG KONG OF MR D J JENKINS

Sir Anthony Royle MP has forwarded to the Secretary of State a letter which he has received from his constituent,

I Mr DJ Jenkins, of 25 Meredyth Road, Barnes, London SW13. enclose copies of this letter and of the material enclosed with it, together with a copy of Sir A Royle's covering letter.

2.

Mr Jenkins, a British citizen, is complaining against the Chief Immigration Officer's refusal to allow him to enter the Colony when he arrived at Kai Tak airport, on a flight from London, on 7 November.

3.

You will see from Mr Jenkins's letter and enclosures to Sir Anthony Royle that he is asking for a letter of apology, and for restitution of his outgoing fare as well as repayment of all his incidental expenses. On the facts as presented, he may have some grounds for feeling aggrieved. But it equally seems odd that a man apparently of some substance should have come to Hong Kong with a one-way ticket, no pb and £200 in his pocket, and it may well be that there is background to this of which we are unaware. In any event we would be grateful for your early comments.

Meanwhile we are telling Sir Anthony that we have referred the whole matter to the Hong Kong Government, and that we shall be writing to him again when we receive your reply.
