The total amount of drugs seized was 162.3 grammes of a mixture con- taining 71.3 grammes of salts of ecters of morphine and 27.5 grammes of a mixture containing 11 grammes of barbitone. NG was arrested and charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs for the Purpose of Unlawful Trafficking. He was convicted and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment suspended for 2 years.

Following the arrest reported in paragraph (24) above, a follow up raid was made at a nearby flat. A search of the premises was made and large amounts of No. 4 heroin, No. 3 heroin and barbi- tone were discovered. A man, CHU Tsang (2612/1073) and a woman, MA Chor-ngor (7456/2806/1230), found on the premises were arrested. The total seizure amounted to 12.2127 kilogrammes of a mixture con- taining 4.8698 kilogrammes of salts of esters of morphine, 9.668 kilogrammes of pure barbitone and 315 grammes of a mixture contain.. ing 162.3 grammes of barbitone. CHU and MA were jointly charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs for the Purpose of Unlawful Traf- ficking. CHU was convicted and sentenced to 8 years imprisonment. No evidence was offered against MA.

On 1st March, 1973, acting on information, officers of the Narcotics Bureau raided a ground floor flat in Wan Chai. After forcible entry they found 87 blocks of '999' brand morphine and 52 packets of raw opium hidden behind a wooden board at the rear of the premises. The total seizure comprised 109.4 kilogrammes of a mixture containing 91.65 kilogrammes of a salt of morphine and 87.54 kilo- grammes of raw opium. Enquiries failed to establish ownership of the drugs and no arrest was made.

On 8th March, 1973, officers of the Narcotics Bureau carried out two raids on premises in Kowloon. A search of the first premises produced nothing. However, a man, HO Che-ming (0149/1807/ 2494), found on the premises, was a part-owner of the second address to be raided. HO was taken to the second premises where, with keys in his possession he unlocked the door. The premises was searched and 25 blocks of 1999' brand morphine, a large quantity of No. 3 heroin, two jerry cans of acetic anhydride and eight large packets of caffeine were discovered. HO was arrested. The total seizure comprised 33.669 kilogrammes of a mixture containing 29.4862 kilo- grammes of a salt of morphine and 6.6046 kilogrammes of a mixture containing 2.8706 kilogrammes of salts of esters of morphine. A third raid was carried out at the residence of a woman, CHAN Yuk- ying (7115/3768/5391). No drugs were found in the premises, but CHAN was arrested because she was HO's partner in the second pre- mises. HO and CHAN were jointly charged with Possession of Danger- ous Drugs for the Purpose of Unlawful Trafficking. Both were convicted and each sentenced to 8 years imprisonment.

On 17th March, 1973, acting on information, officers of the Narcotics Bureau raided a flat in Kowloon. On entering the flat, one man, SIU Ting-kit (5618/1694/0267) and his wife LAU Suk-man (0491/3219/2404), were seen in the sitting room in the act of putting packets of raw opium into a cardboard box. After a search, 30 packets of raw opium were seized in the premises. SIU and LAU were arrested. The total weight of raw opium was 60.64 kilogrammes. SIU and LAU were jointly charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs for the Pur- pose of Unlawful Trafficking. SIU was convicted and sentenced to 3
