On 15th January, 1973, an American male, Ernest Robert WEBSTER, 31 years, arrived at Kai Tak Airport from Bangkok. WEBSTER was searched by officers of the Preventive Service and a toilet roll found in his suitcase contained 14 grammes of cannabis. WEBSTER was arrested and charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs for the Purpose of Unlawful Trafficking. He was convicted and fined $750.00HK.

On 12th March, 1973, an American female, Joan Katherine BEARD, 30 years, arrived at Kai Tak Airport from Bangkok. She was searched by officers of the Preventive Service and in her travelling bag they found three polythene packets of cannabis weighing 14.8 grammes. BEARD was arrested and charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs for the Purpose of Unlawful Trafficking. She was convicted and fined $250.00-HK.

On 3rd April, 1973, an American male, Steven Gregory JOHNSTON, 22 years, arrived at Kai Tak Airport from Bangkok. He was searched by officers of the Preventive Service and an envelope found in his travel- ling bag contained 0.3 grammes of salts of esters of morphine. JOHNSTON was arrested and charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs for the Purpose of Unlawful Trafficking. He was convicted and sentenced to one month imprisonment.

On 3rd April, 1973, an American male, William Richar? CHARD Jr., 22 years, arrived at Kai Tak Airport from Bangkok. He was searched by officers of the Preventive Service and inside his bank book 10 grammes of prepared opium was found. He was arrested and charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs. He was convicted and sentenced to 3 months imprison- ment suspended for one year.

On 17th April, 1973, ar. American male, David Jonathan ANDREWS, 44 years, arrived at Kai Tak Airport from Pangkok. He was searched by officers of the Preventive Service and inside his briefcase they found three cigarettes containing 1.1 grammes of cannabis. ANDREWS was arrested and charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs. He was convicted and sentenced to 2 months imprisonment suspended for one year.

On 8th May, 1973, a party of police officers boarded a junk moored off the Hong Kong and Yaumati Ferry Pier at Tsuen Wan, New Ter- ritories. The vessel was searched and 44 gunny sacks of raw opium and 7 packages of morphine blocks were seized.
Three men, CHEUNG Chi-keung (1728/1807/1730), CHEUNG Chi-shing (1728/1807/2052) and LI Shu-tai (2621/ 2885/1601) were arrested. The total seizure consisted of 1,423.98 kilo- grammes of raw opium and 214.96 kilogrammes of a mixture containing 183.81 kilogrammes of a salt of morphine.
On 10th May, 1973, following information received from the arrested persons, a search was made of the sea-bed off Tsing Yi Island and this resulted in the recovery of another 3 gunny sacks of raw opium. The total wight was 97.04 kilogrammes of raw opium. The three arrested men were charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs for the Purpose of Unlawful Trafficking. CHEUNG Chi-keung was convicted and sentenced to 6 years imprisonment. CHEUNG Chi-shing and LI were acquitted.
