You wrote to me on 17 June about the 119 Vietnamese detained in Hong Kong.
You will now be aware that all but one of the 119 were returned to South Vietnam on the day that you wrote. This followed specific assurances to us from the South Vietnamese Government that nothing serious should happen to the group since they would be treated as innocent victims of the syndicate which had snuggled them out of Vietnam.
The one man who was not sent back claimed to have a birth certificate showing that he was born in Hong Kong. He was allowed to stay in the Colony pending examination of his case.
