and others on a visit to the owner of a call-girl' business to discuss with him
a matter concerning a girl who was being detained by him.
(7)
That although the said HO So-kuen handed out weapons to your humble
petitioner and to the others taking part, your humble petitioner assumed these
were merely for defence if they attacked and had no intention of using any
violence. But having arrived at the premises of the call-girl business, while
waiting outside for HO So-kuen, your humble petitioner became aware of the
noise of fighting inside, and entered the premises to assist his companions.
In the following confusion, your humble petitioner regrettably wounded an
inmate of the premises, believing that he was likely to be attacked himself.
(૪) That your humble petitioner is very repentant of his action and
fully appreciates the disgrace he has brought to himself and to his family
and the grief that has been caused to the family of the deceased. He realises
fully his error in associating with and allowing himself to be influenced by
persons of a criminal and violent disposition.
Therefore, he is appealing to His Excellency the Governor to pardon
him for his wrong-doing, and to remit his present sentence of hanging and
substitute one of imprisonment so that he can repent and atone for all his
wrongful acts.
That your humble petitioner promises to remember this forever and
thence forward to lead a useful and industrious life, and be of benefit to
the community.
