Many thanks for your letter HKK 9/2 of 14 June, about the senior education post in Hong Kong.

Given that what Hong Kong is seeking is a professional,
I have two suggestion to offer
(a)
(b)
it would be worthwhile discovering, unofficially (and I can do this if you wished), whether Stan Wood, whom you may remember as the Education Adviser in the Development Division in Barbados, and who was formerly Director of Education in Uganda, might be interested;
I have some sort of entré to the Association of Directors of Education in Scotland. Again, unofficially and by me if you so wished, I would think it well worthwhile asking whether they might have a man of the right calibre available and interested.
3. If you wanted me to make either or both approaches, I would I think need another piece of paper which I might call the job description. The papers you sent me set out the conditions of appointment of the Director of Education, and the conditions of service for overseas officers; but both are administrative documents. I imagine that somewhere there is a note about the actual duties attached to the post, and that would be very useful.
4. Finally I note that the Governor is expected in the Office this week. If I can be of any assistance do please call on me.
