1.

I am sorry that we did not send you earlier the details of the Hong Kong Director of Education post, about which Andrew Stuart and John Champion spoke to you; what we have is now attached. We were about to send this to you when we received a telegram from Hong Kong saying that they now proposed to appoint a local Administrator to the post. We shall, however, be having a word about the post with the Governor when he calls on us early next week.

2.

Hong Kong have now asked us to concentrate our efforts on the appointment of an Adviser to support the new Director. The job carries a salary of HKS 10,700 per month (Hong Kong dollars per month are almost equal to pounds per year). The sort of man they are seeking would be a first-rate Chief Education Officer from a large Local Education Authority perhaps one made redundant under the recent re-organisation. They also mentioned someone such as a seconded officer of Under- Secretary rank from the DES, with administrative experience over various areas of education. We assumed that you would not yourself be interested in this job.

3..

The Hong Kong Government have asked us to interview one candidate the Chief Education Officer of Haringey. I believe you told Andrew that you might perhaps have some other suggestions If so, we should certainly be glad to have them.
