were disbanded. At the end of 1963, the Burmese government abolished all the sales agencies, and confiscated several ten thousand pounds of opium from the Kwo Kam() merchants and people. This enables the guerilla forces and rebel troops to resume giving pro- tection and to expand.

As opposition to government confiscation, the headmen of Kwo Kam (果 ) formed a rebel army of 2,000 strong under the leadership of Young Chun Sing. Boaring in mind the political future of the people of Kwo Kam() and knowing too well that Young would eventually be defeated by government, Law Sing Hon formed the Kwo Kam People's Self-defence Corps in conjunction with other anti-feudal headmen in the arca. They assisted the government in getting rid of Yeung, and absorbed 1,000 odd armed members into the Corps. On 26th June, 1967 Burma severed diplomatic relations with China following a fight between its offioials and staff of the Chinese Embassy in Burma. (Our Self-defence Corps know that China would carry out an armed aggression on Burma, and resolutely re- organised ourselves as the Anti-Communist Division following an expansion to 2,400 odd armed members On 1st January, 1968 over 3,000 Burmese Communists, who had been under the influence of China for 18 years, invaded from Pang Shun (

on the west and Kwo Kam (

on the cast of the Salween River, ( 江ノ and within a few days took over more than 10 government barracks. Thus Burma's war against communism started and spread. In order to perpetuate our aim, our Division set up the Kwo Kam (*) Anti-Communist) Military School in the important city of Lashio (腊

in northern Burma in March, 1968 to train our staff. Over 3,000 staff were thus trained and together with 4,000 odd armed members from the expansion, the Division's strength stood at 7,000 odd. Owing to difficulty in maintaining such a large force, the strength has now been reduced to 4,000 odd. However, this will again be expanded when sufficient revenue is available.

Since 1968, together with the field troops of government our Division has had over 400 clashes with the Communists in Kwo Kam(果

敢) and the area north of Lashio (腊

The Communists have now become afraid of us and because we are better than government field troops, we have received the protection of the Burmese government which has put us in administrative control of an area with 600,000 odd people commencing from Nam Hom ( 坎) in the north, and extending to Tong Young ( 陽) in Kar Ngar Mountain () in the east and Nam ? in the south. These are the remarkable results achieved by the people of Kwo Kam(果

under the leadership of Law Sing Hon after 8 years struggle.
