The Government issued an official denial and gave the

true facts.

4. Two other incidents have been published by the

China Mail. An ex-Inspector Ellis in the Hong Kong

Police Force wrote to the China Mail reviving a claim

of wrongful dismissal from the Police Force. Publicity

has also been given to an action against the Government

by a Police Sergeant Khan, who has complained about

his reversion from Inspector to a lower rank at the

end of his inspector's initial training course.

In

fact he passed his examination at the end of the course

in bottom place and had not been adjudged suitable

to pass out.

Otherwise the campaign has largely been based on

views expressed by the public and not on hard evidence.
