imposed or levied upon a subject or citizen of the country, or upon a subject or citizen of the most favoured nation.

VII. It shall be free for each of the 2 Contracting Parties to appoint Consuls to reside in the territories of the other Party; but before any Consul shall act as such, he shall, in the usual form, be approved and admitted by the Government to which he is sent; and either of the Con-, tracting Parties may except from the residence of Consuls such particular places as either of them may judge fit to be ex- cepted.

The Consuls of each of the Contracting Parties in the do- minions of the other shall enjoy whatever privileges, exemptions, and immunities are or shall be granted there to Consuls of the most favoured nation.

VIII. In all that relates to the importation into, the ware- housing in, the transit through, and the exportation from, their re- spective territories, of any article of lawful commerce, the 2 Con- tracting Parties engage that their respective subjects and citizens shall be placed upon the same footing as subjects and citizens of the country, or as the subjects and citizens of the most favoured nation in any case where the latter may enjoy an exceptional advantage not granted to na- tives.

Mais avant qu'un Consul puisse agir en cette qualité, il devra être reconnu et admis dans la forme ordinaire par le Gouvernement auprès duquel il est délégué: et chacune des 2 Parties Contractantes pourra excepter de la résidence de Con- suls des places spéciales, selon qu'elle le jugera nécessaire.

Les Consuls de chacune des 2 Parties Contractantes jouiront, sur les territoires de l'autre, de tous les priviléges, exemptions, et immunités qui sont, ou qui pourront être, accordés aux Consuls de la nation la plus favorisée.

VIII. Les 2 Parties Contrac- tantes s'engagent à traiter les sujets et les citoyens respectifs, dans tout ce qui touche l'impor- tation, l'entrepôt, le transit, et l'exportation, de tout article d'un commerce légal, sur le même pied quo les sujets et les citoyens du pays, ou que les sujets et citoyens de la nation la plus favorisée, dans tous les cas où ces derniers jouiraient d'un avan- tage exceptionnel non accordé aux nationaux.
